Tips For Starting Conversation With A Stranger

By George Wood Starting conversation with someone you have just met is sometimes difficult for the majority of us just because we are not sure of what to say. But to be confident to make the first move in starting conversation with a stranger often boosts our spirits and helps us to become more diligent and contented with ourselves. First of all be confident about what youre going to say is not going to put the other person in a difficult situation. Make a few easy remarks about the way they look or how beautiful the weather is. Always try to start a conversation with a positive note. Before saying anything, smiling at the other person also helps to ease down the tension between the two of you. Help them out with something theyre doing and make casual small talk while doing so. Ask them what theyre doing it for and how will they like it done. Try to sound friendly but do not pry too much into someones privacy. Remember that its your first meeting and everything has to flow in a natural manner. To make small talk with anyone, you have to see what age group they belong to. You cant talk about politics or current affairs with someone who is young and enthusiastic. And you cant talk about movies, dating or relationships with someone elderly. Also try to judge their personality by looking at the way they have dressed up to decide the topic of discussion that will be best suited between the two of you. If you have a strong hold of general knowledge you should not have any difficulty talking to just about anyone in the crowd. If you want to learn something new, making small talk with someone nearby will help you out a lot. Ask them questions to extract information that will be useful to you in future. Listening is very important in any conversation. Whether you are talking to a complete stranger or someone you know, you have to listen to what they have to say before putting in your own remarks. If you dont listen and keep babbling, chances are the other person will soon get bored and walk away. Be an active listener and avoid such situations. But that doesnt mean that you should only keep on listening and do not make deliberate efforts of contributing in the conversation. Make it interesting and useful for both parties and make sure the two of you depart on a positive note. Making small talk with someone is a great way to increase your social circle and improve your vocabulary as well as information. Dont be hesitant and keep in mind that all of us are in need of human attention and care. Its only going to make someone cheerful or bring a smile on their face. So dont miss out on any such opportunity and make the first move in starting conversation with anyone. Choosing Fish for the Garden Pond

By Philip Swindells Once a new garden pond has been planted and the waterlilies and other aquatic plants have been established for four or five weeks, ornamental fish can be introduced. There is no minimum number of fish necessary for a pond, although without any fish at all it will become a nursery for mosquitoes and there will be little chance of controlling aquatic insect pests. Even for the pond-keeper with little interest in ornamental fish, it is prudent to introduce half a dozen merely to control insect life. The majority of pond-keepers find fish as important as plants, especially those who have a young family. Children love fish, although there is a danger of over-stocking, for there never seems to be enough in any pond for young children. There is also impatience to get the new pond stocked immediately it is filled with water. This must be resisted until the plants have had an opportunity to establish. While there is no minimum requirement for fish, there is a maximum number that should not be exceeded. The most satisfactory stocking rate is 2ins length of fish to every 1 square foot of surface area. This is not of the total surface area of the pond but of open water uncluttered by marginal plants. This rate of stocking permits growth and development of the fish and makes natural breeding likely. Fish enthusiasts will often stock more heavily than this, but an absolute maximum is 6ins to every 1 square foot of surface area. When purchasing fish a good guide as to whether they are healthy is the condition of their fins. Stout upright dorsal fins and well-expanded ventral fins are an indication of good health and this can be confirmed if the eyes are clear and bright as well. An obvious consideration when selecting fish is their liveliness. However, while a lively fish is likely to be a healthy fish, it could equally be a very hungry fish. It is common practice with many fish retailers to keep the fish a little hungry. This ensures that they swim and dart about the tank in search of morsels of food and therefore appear livelier than they would ordinarily. An added bonus is the reduction in the fouling in the tank. With small fish it is important to see that there are no damaged or missing scales as exposed tissue is very susceptible to fungal infection. The same applies to larger specimens, although it is not so critical, and the likelihood of finding a large fish that has no scales missing is fairly remote. If an otherwise healthy fish has a few scales missing, then dip it in a proprietary fungus cure. It is prudent in any event to treat all newly purchased fish in this way as a precaution before introducing them to the pond. Philip Swindells has over 40 years gardening experience. Relationship Help: Do You Know What Kind of Eggs Your Partner Loves?

By Denice Moffat My husband and I just re-watched the Julia Roberts movie, Runaway Bride. Remember when Richard Gere said to Julia, You dont even know what kind of eggs you like. Apparently neither did any of the men she had left at the alter. Communication is essential for a long-lasting, happy relationship. Its easy the first six months when those hormones run wild, but after that, you have to actually do some WORK to keep the relationship going. Runaway Bride reminded me of how lucky I am to have the most awesome and loving husband in the world, but, Ive noticed in my practice as a naturopath and medical intuitive, that most people are not as lucky in the relationship area as I amand their body shows it with the byproducts of emotional distraught through rheumatoid arthritis, allergies, cancer and lots of other manifestations. So, how do you build a great relationship? I have worked on that over the years (this is my fourth and last marriage.) This is an exercise I share with many of my clients that has saved some marriages, nurtured others, and has benefited all who have completed it. My theory about relationships is that there are certain patterns we cannot change. To get along and flourish, we need to understand that: 1) Men and women are just different. 2) We each have some male and some female tendencies. 3) We are here to work through lessons, so sometimes it just helps to know what your soul contract is with your partner. I like muscle-testing as a technique to determine how many lifetimes you have spent with each other and what those lessons are that you came here to focus on. It helps to put things into perspective (or not for those of you who dont believe in reincarnation!) 4) Relationships are where its at, no matter how busy we keep ourselves with our To Do Lists and jobs. 5) If you dont learn it in this relationship, the lessons will be repeated until you get it through other relationships (take it from one who knows!) We are all angels in each others lives, to share certain lessons or be here to support each other. 6) And, finallyLove is all that really matters. The Relationship Exercise: Find out what really pleases your mate and commit to do at least three of these things on their list of 10-15 items each and every day to build up that emotional bank account. Why? Because someday you will inadvertently make a withdrawal on that emotional bank account and you dont want to be overdrawn! Emotional overdraws lead to divorce. I guide my clients to download my relationships exercise http://www.naturalhealthtechniques.com/Coaching%20Corner/relationships1.htm and make one copy for each person in the family unit. The exercise includes one of my famous no brainer lists, which is a list long enough that you dont have to think things up on your ownthe perfect memory-trigger. Post your completed lists on the refrigerator. It helps to keep you focused. Review the lists with each other once a day. Its not what makes US happy we should be doing for our partners and family members, its what makes THEM happy. And dont be pushing buttons when you know what severely displeases your partner. That is not playing fair. You will pay for it later because you reap what you sow. 2005 by Dr. Denice M. How Processing Affects Apricots

By Cindy Ng Ninety-eight percent of all juices, including apricot juices, sold in the United States are pasteurized to stop the natural enzyme action that would otherwise turn sugars to alcohols. Pasteurization also protects juices from potentially harmful bacterial and mold contamination. Following several deaths attributed to unpasteurized apple juices that contain E.coli, the FDA ruled that all fruit and vegetable juices must carry a warning label telling you whether the juice has been pasteurized. By the end of the year 2000, all juices must be processed to remove or inactivate harmful bacteria. Five pounds of fresh apricots produce only a pound of dried apricots. Drying remove the water, not nutrients. Ounce for ounce, dried apricots have twelve times the iron, seven times the fiber, and five times the vitamin A of the fresh fruit. Three and a half ounces of dried apricots provide 12,700 IU of vitamin A, two and a half times the full daily requirements for a healthy adult man, and 6.3 mg of iron, one-third the daily requirement for an adult woman. In some studies with laboratory animals, dried apricots have been as effective as liver, kidneys, and eggs in treating iron-deficiency anemia. To keep them from turning brown as they dry, apricots may be treated with sulfur dioxide. This chemical may cause serious allergic reactions, including anaphylactic shock, in people who are sensitive to sulfites. Apricots can also be found in medical uses. They are used in lowering the risk of some cancers. According to the American Cancer Society, apricots and other foods rich in beta-carotene may lower the risk of cancers of the larynx, esophagus, and lungs. Although this remains unproven, the ACS recommends adding apricots to your diet. There is no such benefit from beta-carotene supplements. On the contrary, one controversial study actually showed a higher rate of lung cancer among smokers taking the supplement. Quick Weight Loss: Fact Or Fiction

By Carl DiNello Why are people always looking for a quick fix? Some want to get rich quick, but generally the only people making those promises to us are only trying to get their hands in our pockets. Some want to grow tall quick. Some want their hair, or their nails to grow quick. Some even want to sleep quickly, and still be able to function normally. Seemingly, always in a hurry, we want quick results in every aspect of life that matters to us, including weight loss. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a safe, quick weight loss program. While we always see the promises of fad diets, and obscure exercise products, as offering a quick weight loss solution, the truth is, and there’s no way around it: you have to do the work. The math is quite simple; burn more calories than you eat. We may not like it, but diet, and exercise, are still the answer. What’s Wrong With Diets That Promise Quick Weight Loss? * Most fad diets emphasize one food type, almost to the exclusion of everything else. All your life your parents, and doctors have pointed out the benefits of following a balanced diet, and they were right. Only a balanced diet will provide you with all the valuable nutrients you need. Anything less could put you at risk for serious nutritional deficiencies. * Most fad diets become very boring, making them almost impossible to stay on for any length of time. A fad diet might offer you some quick weight loss at the start, this will level off in a short time, and the lost pounds will return when you come off the diet. * Most fad diets don’t acknowledge, and encourage the role of physical activity in weight loss. Those that do, do so in very fine print. A safe, sensible, and effective weight loss program balances both diet and exercise. Diet alone will not allow you to maintain any significant weight loss over time. * Many fad diets have nothing substantial to back up their claims. There examples of successful people using their diet are the exception, rather than the rule. According to the American Heart Association, many of the claims made by these fad diets, are unsubstantiated myths. What Do We Really Have To Do To Lose Weight? * Be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits, and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are rich in the vitamins and minerals your body needs to function properly. Fruits and vegetables also help to give you that full feeling. * Eat whole grains, and fat-free, or low-fat dairy products. Whole grains are the good carbohydrates. They are high in fiber, which helps to promote fat loss. Fat-free, and low-fat dairy products provide the protein, and calcium, you need without overloading you with fat. * Take part in regular physical activity. Regular exercise will not only help you burn fat, but will also strengthen your muscles, improve your digestion and elimination, and greatly reduce your risk for heart disease, diabetes, and other conditions. * Get enough rest. Try for at least 8 hours of sleep every night. Studies have shown that people who get too little sleep are more likely to indulge in unhealthy behaviors such as overeating, and avoiding exercise. * Try to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day. Drinking plenty of water helps you to feel full, and promotes elimination of waste materials from your body. There is an old saying that states: if it’s important enough, you should be willing to work hard for it. Quick weight loss, that is permanent weight loss, is unrealistic, and in many cases unhealthy. Help for Parents: Top 5 Parenting Concerns - Conquered!

By Cheryl Hall Whether its looking for information on the safety of your toddlers toys or finding out about your teens chats, searching for financial help for single parents, or looking for advice on a teens job, isnt it amazing how much time you spend worrying about your child? We are all looking for help as parents. Isnt it funny how the minute that the nurse hands you that tiny bundle how your whole world changes? You were care-free, you were spontaneous, you were a pretty cool person; you hold that baby for 5 minutes and you turn into your parents! It starts out with colic and teething. Is your child developing as quickly as they should? Why arent they talking yet? What worries you changes with their height. Then suddenly its off to school and theres a whole 8 hours in their day that is unaccounted for; your input seems to be minimal and your opinion counts for less. You hear about something horrible happening to a kid somewhere and you instantly feel nauseous. Could that happen to your child? As they get older, you start to wonder if theyre going to be able to make it all. How can someone who is 13 and cant remember their gym uniform going to hold down a job at 16? Or go off to college and live on their own at 18? And if they dont pull up their grades, are they even getting into college? We always hear about how raising a child is so different now, what parents have to worry about is so much more difficult. I believe its been the same set of worries since time began, just with a different name. We just have more ways of KNOWING what were all thinking now. So what are we all so worried about? 1. My Child is not safe online We have all heard the horror stories and watched the news reports. Predators are out there, its true. Has the Internet given them a whole new venue? You bet. How can you protect your child? Give them something to do online! Do they really need another 4 hours a night of idle chit-chat with their friends? Why not give the opportunity to have an online business and make some money! 2. My Child is not learning ANYTHING in school Ive been there, youve been there; you ask your child what they did at school today, Nothing. Or better what they did do at school that day had nothing to do with learning; it actually stopped whatever learning could have taken place. Do the public schools in this country need improvement? Most definitely! What can you do about it? Make sure theyre learning at home, from you and other sources you support about business. How could you involve them more in your own business? How could they be working? What could they be given the opportunity to learn then? 3. My Child spends every minute of life (fill in the blank, watching TV, playing video games, on the phone) Gone are the days when most of us have a farm so the kids have a few hours of chores to do. Keeping up with what little household responsibilities they may have takes a matter of minutes. Homework is a breeze, which leaves hours of free time that must be filled. Think about how much better that time could be spent, working on a business. And they would have something to show for it! 4. My Child has terrible self-esteem Ugh, teenage angst; the roller coaster ride of emotions, one day youre on top of the world and the next you want to hide in your room and never show your face again. Its difficult to feel your best when youve got all this inner turmoil and energy with nothing to do but focus on your problem du jour. Having a part-time job or their own business can do wonders for a child suffering with poor self-esteem. The amount of money they make is secondary to the VALUE they will associate with their time and their ideas. When you know your time and ideas are valuable, other day to day problems seem less overwhelming. 5. My Child Couldnt Be Responsible for a Hole in the Wall Sometimes dont you wish there was a video that you could play that would just cover everything for you? The standard video of, Call at this time and dont forget that thing, and make sure you bring home this book and wheres your lunch? It would be such a time saver! If youre tired of being the one who always has to cover what your child forgot, lost, broke or didnt do, give them something really big to be responsible for! Something that if they forget, lose, break or dont do what their supposed to, its all on them. The consequences for not running their business in a responsible manner will be huge; and make them broke! And you can save all that time youd normally spend nagging. Whatever your child-rearing worries are, much can be accomplished through giving teens jobs, or better yet, starting a business. Your child will be learning, growing, utilizing their time, becoming more responsible and paving the way for future success. Best of all, they will be learning how to think for success: find something you love and DO it. If they can do that one thing, not only are they going to grow up OK, but they will have a happier, financially abundant future. And you can stop worrying. There is help for parents and its in helping your child help themselves. Cheryl Hall (http://www.MillionaireKids101.com) has the keys for parents to help their children become financially successful. She has created 3 courses to help children learn how to think about money and start on the road to wealth and independence; Millionaire Kids 101, 201 and Millionaire Masters. Relationship Quiz - Are You Angry At Your Partner?

By CD Mohatta Anger is the natural reaction of helplessness and frustration. When we feel that we are being forced to suffer, we get either angry or feel very helpless. When we feel victimized, we get angry with our abuser. What about your relationship? Are you getting angry with your partner for any reason? Can we quiz on that? Anger with partner can be for various reasons. Your partner has overspent and it has turned your budget haywire. You now feel helpless about how to manage the finances. Your natural reaction is anger at your partner. Why did she/he do this? Both of you have decided to keep something private and not tell anyone. You find out that your partner has spoken about that with his/her friend. You get angry. This way we keep getting angry with our partner and our partner gets angry at us at different intervals. The danger is somewhere else. Quiz anger and its danger- when the anger becomes a permanent feature of relationship, it eats away the love. The focus turns from sharing love to anger. You will begin looking at your partner as someone who is always troubling you for some or other reason. Everyday you will wait for something new to happen and feel quite helpless, because despite all your anger your partner is not changing. This becomes a game- I make mistake and you feel angry. Such games are very corrosive for the health of the relationship. You should sit with your partner and try and explain what all he/she is doing. After that if you find no improvement, the alternative for you is either to break-up or suffer.
